History
Caianda has a history marked by its strategic geographic position at the tri-national border between Angola, DRC and Zambia. During the post-civil war period, in 2004, it became a vital land corridor for the repatriation of over 71,000 Angolan refugees returning from Zambia, organized by UNHCR. This historic moment consolidated Caianda as a meeting point for Angolan families.

Located at 11°00'S and 23°32'E, Caianda is in northeastern Angola, in Moxico Leste Province. The town is on the road linking Luena, capital of Moxico Province, to Mwinilunga in Zambia, at an altitude of approximately 1,276 meters.
